Educational Resources for Upper Kirby
Wraparound Services supports critical issues for students related to their mental and physical health needs. While Upper Kirby is one of the wealthier areas of Houston there are still residents who struggle with issues related to food insecurity, for instance. Children who don’t know where their next meal is coming from will likely have problems in being able to succeed in the classroom. Wraparound Services can help with being able to provide free meals to families. This organization is present at many Houston ISD campuses to counsel students and help assess older students for career or college readiness.
As children end the school day, sometimes their main temptation is boredom or idleness. We know that left unsupervised children can get into trouble. If you will be working during after school hours, then you should know that there are resources for your Upper Kirby student to take advantage of when the school day lets out. An example is The Women’s Fund for Health Education and Resiliency. This organization promotes good health among students in order so that they can be better learners.
United Way MATH (Mastering Algebra Together Houston) is a joint effort of the United Way of Greater Houston and ConocoPhillips. Algebra tends to be a subject that high school students struggle with. To increase the performance of Houston high schoolers, United Way MATH trains eighth graders on how to become proficient at algebra so that they can succeed in algebra while tutoring sixth grade students. Paying it forward is a good thing!
The Houston Parks and Recreation Afterschool enrichment program helps students after school by teaching them lessons on sportsmanship, physical fitness, self-control, and healthy habits that can make a huge difference in the life of your children. Being outside running around can be a nice change for most students who spend much of their day inside a classroom.
